There is no predetermined number of treatments for a specific condition. Following your initial consultation, we will discuss and agree a treatment plan with you. This will include advice about the approximate number of treatments you need. However, it’s important to bear in mind that each person responds to treatment differently. Doing your physiotherapy exercises and following our advice have profound effects on the outcome of treatment.

You’re not sure what to expect? Perhaps you’re also concerned that you won’t get the most for your time and money? Follow those three tops tips, which you can easily do beforehand to ensure you get the most out of your session:
1 Prepare Your Environment
Your physiotherapy appointment is at your home/ office. Think where would be the most comfortable environment for you, so you could feel relaxed, focused, safe and private as you will need to undress for the assessment / treatment. Maybe you will need a towel or blanket to keep a comfortable body temperature while being treated. I would bring a 2m long portable plinth and will need some space for functional assessment, but I have treated people in gardens, childrens rooms and kitchen, small flats constrained by space. Clearing the space ahead from books/ toys/ pets would save you the valuable time for your assessment and treatment.
2 Prepare to Bare
During your physiotherapy session I will definitely want to see and assess the injured or painful area, but also structures above or below this too. More complex injuries might require a whole body assessment. Prepare yourself for this ahead of time and ensure you are appropriately dressed or armed with the right layers. If you’re being seen to treat your shoulder, be prepared to slip off your top so for ladies, wearing a sports bra would be the best option. Shorts are fantastic for leg conditions and allow you to be fully assessed and treated.
If you have a leg /foot injury, prepare your shoes/ trainers and orthotics if you wear them.
3 Think About Your Symptoms
An extremely valuable part of the assessment of any condition is a thorough analysis of what makes it better or worse. This enables me to clearly diagnose the problem, but also to set irritability levels. This gives a better idea of how much I can do in a session without potentially irritating your symptoms.
Think about and even write down:
History of the problem – when did it start? Is it the same, getting better or worse since it started? Is it the first time having this problem? Have you had any investigations like blood tests, scans or X-rays? Do you have a copy of your results?
Any previous treatment – have you had any medical treatment or other treatment i.e. Another physio, chiropractic or osteopath?
What things make the problem worse and what things make it better?
Do you have more pain at night or first thing in the morning?
What medications are you on? Provide me with a list during session
Do you have any other symptoms like pins and needles, numbness, sweating, giving way or locking etc?
What would you like to get back to doing that the problem is stopping you from doing now?
What would you like to get out of the session?
